Fridge as Hilton Brand Standard

An very Friday-feeling thread - food for thought for the weekend if you will.

This hadn't really occurred to me until recently, but I'm surprised that Hilton level properties don't all have fridges in the rooms. I think because most of the Hilton's I've stayed at do have fridges that I haven't picked up on this.

I never expect a Hampton for example to necessarily have a fridge being 'Focussed Service' level. Although some of the new Hamptons with the new design-language do now incorporate a 'cool' mini-fridge, my experience around the UK and Europe is that most don't tend to. Double Tree, being the other 'Full Service' brand that sits along side Hilton can be all over the place in terms of quality and amenities in general are hit and miss - with some being near-luxury standard and others being much closer to the 'focussed service level'

However, I've always expected that Hilton-branded properties should have one and for some reason I think I almost assumed that was the brand standard. I admit I don't always need a fridge, but I am a Diet Coke addict and I quite often travel with enough supply to last any given journey. As such I noticed on my trips last week that Hilton Liverpool and Hilton Birmingham Metropole (the latter recently renovated) did not have fridges in the rooms. I've stayed at both a fair few times. I can say that the suites (diamond upgrades) at the Metropole do have fridges. Every other Hilton over the last couple of weeks - Bankside, Tower Bridge, Canary Wharf, Leeds (although I've always been upgraded to a suite here) did indeed have fridges.

In short, I feel like in the post-paid-automatic-minibar age, a fridge should be provided at Hilton level, if not in every hotel room as standard. I'm interested, especially outside the UK, what people's expectations or lived-experience is of Hilton hotels having fridges. I'd say 90% of the ones I stay at do, otherwise I wouldn't have noticed. But this is very UK and especially London centric view.

The mystery of the missing fridge:
