True... But those JFK/BOS to HNL is still mostly a "leisure" market so Hawaiian literally is the market leader for those long haul flights with better offerings than other mainline carriers. They offer two free meals in both cabins, but honestly they are not in the same level as Asian carriers on those premium SEA-Asia flights. One of the first class F/As made a casual comment that they were all little bit nervous because SEA to Tokyo flights will have a completely different passenger base and even they know that they are going to expect a more "demanding" crowd or passengers who are used to more offering than a typical holiday bound passenger from Boston to Honolulu, who are happy enough to see some real food service in coach.

Agreed re: competitiveness for sure. None of the US carriers can hold a candle to JL/NH of course. I imagine this move by Alaska has the most potential affect on Delta?
