Two things, already mentioned.
1. Never assume you will be guaranteed a type of cabine, because AF and KLM tend to make last minute changes of appareil. On TATL, this could mean even a 772, 789, or A330 for the RDU route.
2. RDU is not a premium destination, so the Opéra (48J) config appareils will be prioritised towards other markets first, like JFK, HKG, SIN, etc.....when I flew it last winter, it was definitely the Optima config (34J).
