For this reason. personally, once I collect a reasonable amount of points for a redemption, I use them immediately - I have never been and will never be "points rich" ...
Sometimes it pays to "opportunistically hoard". I did so with Hilton points a while ago when it was easy to earn. I didn't use a single Hilton point for years and years because the CPP value for low-mid hotels was always poor and I used FNCs for nice hotels. I almost dumped my Hilton points, but SLH came along just at the right time and I've since burned most of my Hilton points. I knew the SLH redemption value was too good to last, and even non-SLH hotels like Conrad Bora Bora and WA Maldives were great values compared to what has become of Marriott and IHG.
