2021-2024 experiences
Have stayed several nights, mostly 2021-22 (platinum challenge 16n, and more) and 2024 (40-45 nights, mostly during Double Nights promo).
Background on Marriott properties in Tbilisi:
Moxy, Marriott, and Courtyard are managed by a "cluster" (good people).
Paragraph (has it's own cluster with Shekvetili property on Black Sea) and Sheraton are managed separately.
Location: good, and next to hotel they added
1. cafe Giulani (bakery, coffee, simple/quick other dishes) which has outdoor courtyard seating, and Moxy guests get 10% discount showing room key card
2. Rigi restaurant, below Giulani, but also has some terrace seating looking onto river. Modern / fusion Georgian and sometimes regional foods promos for 1 - 2 weeks at a time
So, the Vibe is in the Moxy lobby and extends to Giulani courtyard in favourable weather.
Public Transport (ofc, taxi is possible)
1. Bus. Some small buses stop at Saarbrucken "square" but the routes to get there are via narrow streets.
2. Metro. 1km to Marjanishvili metro via pedestrian/cafes street (straight on, no turns); 1.3-1.5km to Liberty/Freedom Square metro; Avlabari metro 1.6km though more traffic
3. Walk. get as close by larger bus routes/stations eg Baratishvili outdoor bus hub/station, and en route is Carre Four supermarket etc or on Rustaveli Ave at Museums then walk through parks
Team: Front-desk/bar gals very good, helpful, welcoming, warm. Maintenance fixing air con and shower were quick, efficient (btw, if shower head doesn't stay in place it's because original parts were from manufacturer in one country but replacement parts now from another and sizing is slightly different)
Rooms:
1. in 2021-early 2022, still very new, though in 2024 showing some wear on surface tops and the TV's are a bit dated technology.
2. small, no desk to work at , so go to the lobby.
3. you can ask for a refrigerator in room ...they are portable
4. you can ask for metal frame for clothes hanging to be moved within the room (to give more space)
5, in 2024, printed notices made about music events, and team was pro-active in suggesting rooms further away from music location (sometimes music is in lobby, sometimes in the small courtyard )
Breakfast or points for Platinum and above.. Breakfast selection is smaller than Courtyard/Garden Inn. One good thing is selection of condiments/sauces/etc near the microwave -- good if you've ordered a lunch or dinner from somewhere and reheating and eating in lobby.
Rates are based on USD and then converted to local currency Georgian Lari (GEL). For stays of several days, this can be an issue when GEL is fluctuating widely, because at check-out they do a recalculation of amount owing in GEL and even if you prepaid those several nights at check-in, you might owe more GEL - this happened to me in March 2024.
I'm guessing this policy is same at Courtyard and Marriott in Tbilisi as they're in same cluster management, Haven't done long stays at other Marriott properties.
Longer stays and Holiday Inn and HI Express and Hilton Garden Inn Riverview, there is no true-up -- if you prepay , you don't owe anything if GEL currency changes even if your stay is one night.
Summary: good place and warm team, good vibe in lobby (also, it's bright), good mix of guests.
