I had this same experience, an “upgrade” upon check-in that was the same category of room I booked but on a higher floor. Room was nice. Our shower head had the majority of its individual nozzles clogged with calcium deposits (like 80% of them were completely clogged, a trickle of water coming out of the rest of the head) - so I spent some time my first night cleaning that out myself, as I didn’t want to deal with maintenance at that time of night. If the shower head in my room was representative of others in the hotel, then they’re not accounting for the hardness of their water in maintaining their water fixtures. Once I cleared out the jams, I enjoyed nice showers the rest of the time. Speaking of maintenance, the window exterior was dirty enough to interfere with the view of the harbor. Which I wouldn’t mind, except that they “upgraded” me to this nicer view, and that kind of defeats the idea.

As others have mentioned, parking is comped for one car per stay - an unadvertised benefit as their website says that parking is paid. We were prepared to pay, so that was a nice surprise.

The rooftop bar is only open on Saturdays and Sundays, which is a shame. Aside from the bar hours, the roof is open from 10am-5pm as an observation deck, which strikes me as odd that it wouldn’t be open all the time. The lobby bar is open nightly but is a total ghost town aside from Platinum and above members collecting their free nightly beverages (beer, house wine, or a daily rotating cocktail). Despite the empty bar and three bartenders staffing the place nightly, I found it hard to get their attention over their prep for breakfast service the next morning. There’s live music most (all?) nights.

Breakfast is pretty decent and options rotate daily.

In general, I get the vibe that they’re not as occupied as they were hoping they’d be and are having to make choices on where to spend the revenue they’re making. The parking lot was pretty empty most of the time and I didn’t see a ton of other guests there. It’s an Aloft, I don’t expect much in general - and my main other experience with the Aloft brand is in the US where I expect a lot less. So it was alright, overall. I don’t think I’d go out of my way to stay here again even with the Platinum benefits I received - I’d choose the city center next time.
Seems to me they have not maintained the property too well. I had a reasonably good experience in October 2024 on points. Stayed with parents for 2 nights in 2 rooms and they upgraded both rooms to the harbor view. (Was actually nice and not visibly dirty...) Also showers in both room worked fine too.
As Titanium member I also got two free breakfasts for my parents. I had to pay for my own for two days but the quality was quite good with a rotational menu. I paid only about 11k points/night per room so I considered it a fairly good deal.
However Marriott has increased point redemption rate for this hotel so it is probably no longer a good deal, that is on top of less than optimal maintenance as you described. (The cash price now seems to be reasonable though.)
Overall I agree with you it is an okay property and I would still consider it if I'm in the area. But I would not consider it my top choices.
