Review of the TOOR Hotel (May 9-12)
Hi everyone, this is my first post. Over the past several years, FT has been an amazing resource for my travels. My family and I recently had a 3-night stay at the TOOR Hotel (May 9-12), so I wanted to write this review and share our positive experience here. This trip was not our first time in Toronto, but it was our first time at the TOOR Hotel.
ROOM
We used points and a SUA to book a 1-bedroom premium executive king suite. The suite was on the third floor and spacious for me, my wife, and my 2 young kids. There was a separate living room with a half-bath, a big sofa, and a small dining room table with 4 chairs. The king bed in the bedroom was very comfortable. The only negative was that the bathroom had a shower, instead of a bathtub (which we prefer when traveling with young kids). The furniture and decor had a modern vibe, somewhere between a Hyatt Centric & a Thompson. I do have pictures of our suite, but I am not able to post them at this time (until I have 5 posts per the FT policy). Once I have 5 posts, I can post them on this thread.
DINING
We had only breakfast at Muse, their French bistro restaurant. Each of us ordered an entree and a drink (lattes for me and my wife, orange juice for my kids). The food was delicious. I would recommend the Croque Madame > Country Ham Benedict > Fine Herb & Vegetable Hash > Avocado Toast. My kids enjoyed the Ricotta Pain Perdu (ie. French toast) with an egg side every morning for 3 days. The chef has legit French culinary skills and nailed the bechamel sauce on the Croque Madame, the poached eggs on the Benedict, and the scrambled eggs. The waitresses were great, provided crayons & coloring pages for our kids, and proactively told us that our breakfast was covered by the Globalist benefits.
SERVICE
The service was excellent throughout our stay. During check-in, the front desk staff member thanked me for being a Globalist and proactively told us about the following benefits: 2 free water bottles daily, complementary breakfast for the 4 of us daily at their restaurant Muse, late check-out if needed, and complementary valet parking. Our first morning, we asked the front desk to help us locate an ATM (as the hotel and restaurant are cashless). The front desk staff quickly told us about the TD bank that was just 1 block away. Every time we passed the front desk, the staff asked how our stay was going. We left a tip for housekeeping every morning, but came back to the room every night with the room clean and the tip untouched.
LOCATION
The hotel is at the intersection of Jarvis St & Shuter St. While there were a few homeless people within a block of this intersection, we did not feel unsafe at all. The hotel worked for our public transportation needs: a block from the 501/503/504/505 streetcar stations, a 10-minute walk from the 97C bus stop, and a 10-minute walk from the Yonge St & Queen subway station.
OVERALL
Among the Category 4 hotels in Toronto, I definitely recommend the TOOR Hotel over the HR Toronto and the Anndore House. It just opened last month and seemed fairly quiet this past weekend, but I can see that changing in the summer. Happy to answer any questions!
