Not surprising, but I hope/expect any J pax booked are entitled to a refund (I almost booked it myself).
YUL-LAX goes down to 1x daily on winter Saturdays and for all of January. That's been more or less the standard schedule for the past few winters. But in any case, if they do drop to 1x daily on your date, they prioritize the evening flight, which I think you're on because that was previously the A330, to maximize TATL connections.
