This is a very common pattern in software these days. Legacy systems written by OG engineers are often the source of truth for logic correctness and accurate business logic for how things should and seamlessly work. None of the "new" systems that are essentially attempts to rehash the original systems will ever meet 100% parity with true legacy systems.
