If your parents can plan ahead and/or are flexible on timing, that’s enough points for multiple business class round trips, especially if they can tolerate cash copays to fly in front. My suggestion would be to start playing with award searches through Air Canada Aeroplan, Air France/KLM Flying Blue, and British Airways to get a sense of points prices and availability. Amex transfers to all of those and several others. I find those three to be a decent mix of value and user friendliness; others calibrate differently. Do get accounts set up in plans they might want to use, but don’t transfer points until you have a plan to use them. Good luck and have fun.
