Hi. I'm new here, though not with forums generally. I searched for a card specific FAQ so as to avoid "check the faq" and could not find an answer.

I'm trying to help my dad. He has ~1,500,000 points through an Amex Gold card. He guessed they were worth "~$10k" which seems low as heck to me. How can he get the most for a prospective trip to Europe flying out of Phoenix? I've seen people on other forums discuss getting better than advertised 1 cent to point ratios for flights through Amex, but don't understand how.
