Where do you propose they get these twin aisle planes from to suddenly upgauge these routes? And aside from the mess that is EWR right now, I have to believe the consumer generally prefers the higher frequency flights as it gives more flexibility about when they fly.
Non-regional crew and plane availability aside, I suspect people prefer actually being able to get to their destination.
