What I succeeded in (at 6 months out but not before) was to go on the JAL website entering my data and the IB flight number and request my seat. You can request either window or aisle. Problem is that it is me and my wife, and you only make one preference selection. Whether or not I chose window, or aisle, the result is the same row, one in the window, one in the middle. The automatic logic doesn't seem to recognise that the majority of couples (at least they who have a good relationship ) would naturally prefer the middle section with the two adjoining seats so that they could spend the 13+ hours next to each other.

Guess we will see what happens at T-24...
