On an AS award for travel on AA, both the check-in agent and the gate agent will be AA agents, not AS agents. Unless an AS ticket agent at the departure airport can combine the two PNRs into one (which seems highly unlikely), AA is not going to through-check bags across separate PNRs.

And on day of travel, the ticket goes to "airport control," so it would be under the control of AA, and then JL, not AS.
