Got a tricky situation—would appreciate any insights.
A few months ago, I applied for the Amex Hilton Honors card and used it to purchase a refundable $2,000 international ticket, which helped me meet the SUB requirement (70,000 Hilton points + 1 Free Night).
Yesterday, Amex shut down this card along with three others. The likely cause: I share an address with a roommate whose cards were also shut down due to significant BG-related activity.
Now my travel plans have changed, and I’m considering canceling the ticket. But I’m unsure how Amex will handle it:
- If I cancel the ticket, will Amex claw back the Hilton SUB or try to bill me on the now-closed card?
- If they do claw back, how much would they charge for the 70K points + 1 FN?
- Alternatively, I could cancel for airline credit, but this airline isn't one I usually fly. Would converting cash to potentially expiring credit be worth avoiding a clawback?
Has anyone experienced a Hilton SUB clawback from Amex after account closure or refund of a qualifying purchase? Any insights would be hugely appreciated!
