I have a somewhat interesting update as recent as last week. I had another award ticket booked that is for example ORD-JFK(AA) connecting on same ticket to Haneda on JAL. I called AA award and asked them to add infant and they were able to reach out to their fare desk and ticket the infant all the way through to Japan. I paid a few hundred with taxes and fees. The issue I did run into is afterwards I called JL to see if they could see the ticketed infant, and they couldn’t. I called AA back and they got on the line with the JAL partner desk and resolved it so that the ticket showed on their end as well and the AA CSR brought the JAL CSR on the line and helped reserve bassinet seat.

im not sure if this is a one-off for JL or a potentially positive update across the board where AA can ticket infant.

as for refundability, I’m not sure but I want to say probably not.
