I go for 17A whenever possible. My first time sitting there I recall waiting for outbursts of noise from the galley and the staircase...but there was no perceptable noise. Instead, you are assured of having no one wake you up by pushing on the back of your seat from behind. And although I've never measured, it seems like there really is more space in 16AB and 17AB than on the right side of the aisle.
