Question I have is can they connect the two flights in Dubai prior to departure, which allows us to drop the bags after connecting or do we have to recheck at the United counter once we clear customs?

Second question since I booked First class to SAN, do I get access to either the Polaris club or United lounge? I noticed when looking to book the flight, it says I need to purchase the lounge access. im looking to relax a little in the lounge after the 16 hour flight and clearing customs. I’m hoping since I have Global Express it will be short and seamless.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions for this end of my trip.
I suggest that when you ask Emirates about checking your bags through to your final destination you refrain from using the term "connection". Since you purchased two separate tickets, you do not have a connection. If you did, there would be no problem about checking the bags through.
