As far as I am aware [although happy to be corrected], using Avios towards a holiday booking does not contribute towards the deposit. You still have to pay the full deposit, with Avios then reducing the net balance after the deposit has been paid.
This would make me think that the Avios are then considered an additional payment in addition to the deposit and would be lost in the event of a voluntary cancellation.
You can use Avios as a deposit, not sure how though but if you cancel ahead of the times where only a deposit is forfeited anything extra that you’ve paid is refundable. Not sure if they refund the Avios or cash equivalent. I’d think it be the Avios.
