If due to an advance cancellation, they tend to be pretty flexible, and usually even more so if you are looking to move from a partner to AA metal. You don’t say where you are originating, but if from somewhere like FCO that has direct AA service to JFK, they should be willing to put you on it. Just call with the exact flight option you want: “My flight was cancelled and the one I was rebooked to doesn’t work for me, please put me on flight xx”
Flight is from TLV, which is problematic in that BA is the only OW airline that was flying there, and they have cancelled through June. My inbound flight is to ATH, which is a relatively easy place to get to or LCA, that would allow me to connect in LHR or move over to a direct that AA flies. But I wouldn't expect them to allow me to move gateways, which is more of question of what is possible.
