I wanted to ask others who have done this - there should be no interruption to the companion certificate, correct? Other than receiving the platinum instead of reserve companion certificate.
If you are planning on downgrading, you have 30 days from the day the annual fee posts to do so and they will give you a full refund of the annual fee difference. I would wait to downgrade until AFTER your companion cert comes, as it should stay as the Reserve cert good for C+ and I, Z FC fares in case you want to use it for that. If you want to do what emma says below, (you would have to sign up for the business version as you are ineligible for a consumer platinum sign-up bonus due to family and lifetime rules) you would get a FULL refund of your reserve annual fee by cancelling and still you would keep your certificate. Or if you want to keep the credit line open you could go to gold or blue card. But all this should wait until after the companion cert posts.
