That brought back memories. I stayed there for a week after graduating from college in 1975.
Moving along, however, € 400 in a major city in western Europe doesn't strike me as a bad rate at all. Based on your description, I'd say that it was a very fair price. TripAdvisor rates this as a four star hotel.
