I've never tried it, but I would like to try taking the AirTrain to the Lefferts Blvd. stop and seeing if I can get an Uber/Lyft there. Even if I have to walk a couple of blocks to cross the Belt Parkway, I feel like it might be cheaper and less of a wait.

I think that someone recently posted in another thread that Uber/Lyft pricing to/from the Lefferts Boulevard AirTrain stop was lower than pricing to/from one of the airline terminals. There should be no need to cross the Belt Parkway.
Whether fares to/from Lefferts Boulevard will be any less than fares to/from the new Howard Beach pick-up location remains to be determined.
