Well, I am rarely hard-pressed to find a reason to go to Japan!
There is a wonderful essay on the Guardian.com (can't seem to find it now) about how travelling with kids will always pay off for life, regardless how difficult it may be at times.
And we were able to basically re-enact that essay as mini-me got car sick in the bus to KMQ, then recovered only to drink too much water at the airport (against my firm advice) and start all over again in the line for Korean Air check-in. While carrying sick kid in one hand, all the bags in the other, the phone in a third hand (trying to contact Eva Air regarding mini-me's phone left behind the day before) we went to the men's restroom and I managed with a fourth hand to undress said kid, clean her up and re-dress her.
Emerging from the restroom, with bags unorganized, kid temporarily healthy and in semi-clean clothes, with neither onward boarding passes nor lost phone at hand, the day was about to get ... much better. The angle Yuki-san zoned in on what must have been the most out-of-place looking travellers in history and simply said:
- I have been looking for you!
Well, if she was accepting us in the state we were, I was surely ready to accept her proposal. However, it was not of romance but of lost items returned to the owner. Mini-me was crossed eye from jet-lag, place-lag and the labour of sick but I managed to sign papers and thank profusely.
After this, getting boarding-passes and getting onboard was the easiest part of the day. We were yet to face a battle over eating or leaving the much anticipated pre-ordered beef bulgogi but that is for another story.
I am also shamelessly going to push my kind-of-trip-report over at
Ten seasons of platinum
It has
some Kanazawa stuff in the middle, (from 2013) but reading from start might help understanding some references. Be warned though, it currently covers 9 years of travel, and I am building motivation to finish the task to document 10 crazy years of
status chasing interesting travelling.
