Just to update you and close this thread. Qatar have suddenly halved their fares from three weeks ago so will avoid the uncertainty of LHR this time round. Will do a separate long weekend in London, if only to stock up on M&S foods . Looks like the lack of people wanting to come to the US or Americans less willing to travel has had a positive impact in this case.
