I made it back from the trip and wanted to update my review with some final comments
Overall: I would say we left the resort very happy and would say this place is a top choice for using certificates in my opinion.
The baseline for opinion is after having visited other "certificate worthy" properties including Conrad Maldives, Waldorf Los Cabos, Waldorf Grand Wailea, Hilton Aruba, Hilton Bentley Miami, Waldorf Chicago.
Service: The service they provide, (ex. personal concierge, golf cart transportation, evening turn down service, free sloth stuffed animal gift for kids, having all the staff know your entire families names, etc. ) I've only experienced in Cabo and Maldives. It really stands out.
Pools: I haven't been to a resort anywhere that's had a better selection of pools. I can't remember how many 7-10? different pools and they all had their own character. Some had infinity edge, one had a water slide, etc. and they all had really high end chairs and a few bed/cabanas that you could use for no charge. They provided aloe and sun screen for free as well.
Beach: The photos don't do it justice, the sand was nice, the water felt to be in the mid 80's I think? and was crystal clear. They provided free snorkeling gear and my expectations were low but going over to the reef area by the volcanic rocks, you could see quite a lot of colorful fish and sea urchins. This wasn't the Maldives but it was nice to have this as an option compared to say Cabo where the beach isn't usable
Food: In the end I think the food was quite good, I just wish they had more restaurant options. They were very flexible and customized a few of the menu items for us which was very nice and we enjoyed it a lot. The ice cream (gelato) place was nice too.
One thing that completely surprised me was they provided meals to kids under 5 FOR FREE! For breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Across the entire trip, this savings really added up.
Family Friendly: It was really interesting that it seemed like literally most of the guests there had kids. They had a kids play area and in the pool area they had a zero entry like splash pad like pool with water jets. All the kids were playing in it and it was great.
Honors Benefits: After 2 days the free breakfast got a little redundant but having the fruits, pastries and 2 cook to order eggs daily for free is hard to complain. One day we just added on a side of bacon. We received an ocean view room upgrade as well
Complaints: I don't have many, but my biggest complaint would be since the resort literally just opened, there were times they couldn't answer my questions. I'd ask about the menu and they weren't familiar about the item or at the front desk the staff stumbled a bit with our multiple reservations and failed attempt to use the gift cards. We didn't have to change rooms but every day the keys stopped working and this was just a minor annoyance.
It's not noticeable inside the resort but there's still some construction going on around especially on the road going into the resort
Just overall expectations had to be adjusted knowing the place had only been open a week.
Wrap Up: Usually after going to a resort like this my wife and I like to try some place new the next time. But with how well this worked with kids we really enjoyed ourselves and would consider going back but we'd target December - February next time (were told since this is the end of the rainy season that it would be more green)
I'd be curious if anyone that's been there has a different opinion, but overall this is great place to use the certificate considering the distance to get there.
Any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
