Tight connection and regularly delayed flight
I have a family member flying from India to the US in two days, flying in Club World from DEL-LHR on BA256 and then making a connection right at the 75minute minimum connection time at Heathrow. Because Pakistan recently banned Indian airline from its airspace, European airlines including BA have started flying around Pakistan to/from India, and as a result, BA256 has arrived in London between 90 minutes and 3 hours late every day since May 1. I've tried calling BA to get them moved to an earlier DEL-LHR flight so they will easily make their connection, but they insist this not a planned rescheduling/delay so they have no flexibility in making accommodations unless we pay rebooking fees, and while it seems certain they will miss their connection, there's no option until they land in London where they would be rebooked to a flight 24 hours later.
Given the planned rerouting, I'm surprised BA is not changing the scheduled flight duration and therefore allowing accommodations on onwards flights. Any suggestions on what we can do, or are we resigned to waiting until they land in London, almost certaintly having already missed their connection? If the latter, any recommendations on how to proceed in London? They are a senior citizen requiring a wheelchair, so the ability to get around quickly or wait in long queues is limited. Would they get rebooked automatically, or need to find an agent, and if so would this be after going through Connections and re-clearing security? Does BA book hotel accommodations, or do we book them ourselves and get reimbursed? The Sofitel attached to T5 seems like the best bet in this situation?
Any advice is appreciated!
