After the opening of the 5-day DM UG window for my return flight, the number of available FC seats ranged from 11 to 13 for the next three days.
DL finally started releasing upgrades shortly before midnight Thursday for the Saturday flight, but still held back 6 seats... ever optimistic of grabbing some more revenue. I'm not opposed to DL increasing revenue. However, if DL is going to continue to claim the the UG window opens at T-5, and considering the number of seats held back for a Saturday evening flight (12 initially), I would have hoped that DL would have done a better job of protecting the credibility of the benefit.
Revenue management holding back six seats hoping to sell them in the last 44 hours prior to departure makes me think of Annie singing:
"Oh! The sun'll come out tomorrow. So ya gotta hang on 'til tomorrow. Come what may!"
While using a kiosk to check in this morning, the person at the one next to me had a giant "WANT A FIRST CLASS SEAT?" prompt appear on their screen, which they quickly dismissed without a second thought. Not sure on route or pricing, or the status of the instant passenger ... but they are pushing the upgrades for sure.
