A decent use of certs

My family stayed here a few weeks ago using a handful of 85k certs. It was their spring break in April, and the hotel and mountain weren't too busy. We had a studio booked and were fortunate to get upgraded to a 1BR, though it doesn't add much. It's certainly odd how there aren't any rooms with two beds until you get to the 2 BR level. The pullout sofa was pretty terrible with a decent slant to it. The room wasn't terribly worn, though the bathroom was fairly blase with minimal counter space. I wouldn't have been happy if I was paying cash.

The ski valet was a decent setup. The valet grabbed our skis at check in and took them down the hill. Self parking is included in the daily resort fee, so we opted for that. The next morning, our boots and skis were waiting for us. We just had to hold on to our poles and helmets. The ski valet will hold your shoes during the day. If you need rentals, there are plenty of places in town, but there is a convenient (though pricier mammoth rental location in the village). There is a rental location in the lower level of the hotel, but I'm not sure what the advantage is there because you would now have to carry stuff down the stairs.

The stairs: there are 75 stairs from the lower level of the hotel (the elevator goes from all guest levels down to the various levels of the parking garage including 'LL'). They aren't bad in the morning, but they certainly are a challenge after a day of skiing.

The gondola to the mountain picks up right above the ski storage room in the village, so it's pretty convenient, and it's a quick ride to and from the mountain.

Platinum status covers a limited breakfast menu, and each night gets 2 dated certificates that we couldn't bank for future days. The food was decent and convenient, but not worth the cash prices especially factoring in a tip

Regular breakfast menu

Platinum breakfast-includes a drink. The burrito with a side of potatoes was pretty filling as a 220lb dude, and I took half to go each day.

To-go breakfast options: chorizo breakfast burritos or croissant sandwiches. Includes fruit or yogurt and orange juice

The better option, was to grab a to go burrito with fruit and OJ to avoid the tip. Because there were only two certs per room each day, my wife and I alternated each day taking a child to the Old New York deli I'm the village. Yes it meant stairs, but there were more and cheaper breakfast options.

The stuffed french toast was a hit.

In the village, we ate at Gomez's Mexican, and it was fine. Everything in the village is overpriced. If you want to eat at Vulcania, make reservations early as they were fairly booked up when we were there during a slow week. We got a reservation a couple days out, but the options were before 5 or after 8. We thought the milkshakes and burgers were good at the Patty shack and the ice cream was good at Hugs. Some of hugs ice cream is more unique flavors from Fosselmans in Alhambra, none of it appeared to be made in house.

I'm sure I'll stay here again using a free night cert, I wouldn't pay cash, and I'll likely look for a slopeside vacation rental next time.
