Dirty towels
I stayed at a five star resort with my own villa. During the first night when I used the towel after I washed my face, my eyes and face burned so bad. I inspected the towels and both looked dirty. I looked in the mirror and my face was already red and a bump was developing on my eyelid. So I washed my face again and the burning sensation immediately went away. I used my clean tshirt instead of towels the rest of my stay even if they gave me fresh towels. Last day there before moving on to my next destination, I got a nasty rash on my hand so had to cancel rest of my vacation and book an early flight home to have it checked bc I do not want to end up in foreign hospital. Dr google said it could be shingles and you can get it from dirty towels and sheets. I covered up the rash per Dr google. I’m hoping it’s just sun burn blisters. I usually bring my own towels but forgot this time. Amazon sells disposable towels which I will pack next time.
Yes, there are germs and fecal matter everywhere but no need to increase exposure and roll around in it. I don’t even trust kettles in hotels bc I heard people wash dirty socks and underwear in it. People are gross, staff can make mistakes or cut corners, so travel freely but minimize risk is key.
