Good experience and service received.

Stayed here for 2 nights during Golden Week holiday.

Pros
  • Upgraded to Harbor View Suite on the top floor at 9pm the day before. Note that all Suites have roughly the same size (850 sqft), the only difference is whether the bedroom has window and balcony at 2 sides (corner).
  • Suite is very new with independent air conditioning control, gigantic balcony, and a gigantic circular bathtub that could probably fit 2 adults 1 child.
The circular bathtub is a surprise as even the more expensive Kamome Suite and Panorama Suite doesn't have it, according to the photos of this thread.
The harbor view actually offered more privacy than the mall view and mountain view.
  • The balcony glass railings were spotlessly clean. I opt-out of housekeeping for 3000 Points per stay.
  • 2 single size sofa beds, presumably for 3rd and 4th guest at a fee.
  • 2 Panasonic air purifiers / humidifiers were there.
  • Arrived at 1:30 PM and was offered early check-in for free.
  • Late checkout also proactively offered but I didn't need it.
  • Personalized welcome note / card placed in my room before my arrival, along with 2 cakes with Marriott logo.
  • Front Desk remembers my last name and room number by recognizing my face.
  • Front Desk staff is the most polite in the whole Kyushu. They are also reasonably fluent in English.
  • Full breakfast selection is above average in Japan (not comparing it with western standard). Not so crowded before 8:00 AM.
  • Lounge food is up to expectations. I went in at 5:10 PM and there were no more window seats. By 5:40 PM the lounge is full and people had to queue.
  • Room service (e.g. blanket, courier delivery) was really fast.
  • Welcome gift is either a plastic coffee cup with lid or 1000 Points.

Cons
  • For a newly built Suite like this, it is unfortunate that no "home automation" (e.g. iPad control) was adopted. I had to walk many times just to change the brightness of certain lights.
  • Parking is misleadingly expensive. For 24 hours, official price is 2500 JPY, hotel guest price is 2000 JPY, but if you hand your parking ticket to the Shinkansen ticket staff at Nagasaki station and if you possess a Shinkansen departure ticket +/- 72 hours, the station staff would do some magic on their computer so that when you leave the parking lot, it only charges 700 JPY every 24 hours up to 72 hours.

Overall, for a hotel operated by JR Hotel Group with Marriott branding, I think the hotel exceeded my expectations and it doesn't feel like the hotel is "having issues" from the recent opening / lack of staff training.
