Ground handling issues - which are common on Saturdays - are countable. But if BA is able to prove there was an hour of delay due to ATC or weather, then it will be harder for you. However BA as a matter of process won't usually delve into countable versus non countable hours, they don't have enough staff for that, but do when it gets to CEDR. You will also get the detailed logs and this may give more information or clues. In particular you need to work through "all reasonable measures" - was there more that BA could have done to avoid the 3 hour delay.
oh we were nearly four hours late, three and a half hours late to take off - the flight after us landed in Heathrow before we took off from Dublin! they definitely could have taken measures, they let a later flight with the same airline take off an hour before us
