This happened to me once in... 800+ AF/KL flights, in a small French outstation (LIL) where the only handling contractor is used to manage low-costs more than legacies and do their checks just before security (with no priority lane there, so no tolerance by status). After being lectured about those 14 kg (suitcase + notebook bag) jeopardizing the flight safety, but in return (politely) playing a bit of DYKWIA game and showing the half empty seat map from the app, I was let through.
