Is there a better option? Would Avis, for example, allow me to terminate a contract and start a new one at a local branch without tacking on the drop fee? Thanks for any suggestions here.
When faced with this situation in the past I just let my employer "deduct" the amount for those "personal" days from an expense reimbursement form... they'd literally price out the rental for whatever period the work trip was, print that quote out, then compare it to my receipt. Whatever the difference was, was what I owed the company. The contracts designated business for rental type and I had the contracted business rate for the entire period of rental.

Some posters below note a potential liability issue with doing that... so maybe that wasn't the best plan.
