From what I can make out, if you make a voluntary change to the first flight, forward in time, and then the ticket gets reissued, then the validity is reset for one year at that point of reissue. It doesn't do so for involuntary changes (except that the online disruption tool may permit it, a telephone agent won't). The final flight has to be within one year of the first flight so there are 2 validity dates here.
