The bolded part above is your sticking point. Even with the schedule change, to rebook onto any non-AC-operated flight, there must be award availability, not cash/revenue availability. On AC-operated flights (e.g., MAD-YUL-YVR-YLW), they can force open award space even if there isn't any, so that might be your best bet. Otherwise, you can search for LH and other *A award availability to any airport with AC service (e.g., MAD-FRA) and then find any AC-operated routing home from there (e.g., FRA-YVR-YLW).

so I tried and Madrid-Frankfurt only has a connecting flight. They are not showing the direct on points
if I do find a flight with 2 different point segments, when I call air Canada will they actually change it?
