You would not have been able to get through the regular non-UK/IE Fast Track barriers with your EDI BP, since that would avoid passport control - you can do Int-Int connections at LHR without passing through the border. You either have to go through the UK & IE connections channel, or go landside and then through the regular Departures channel.
Afaik this fast track is just for the boarding pass check and is different from fast track security which may or may not have bern open
