In short: keep it reasonable and don’t do on a wild shopping tour just because your bag didn’t arrive on the belt - and you will be fine.
I am not the OP and we are of the same mind on this topic.
I just didn't think mentioning the Montreal Convention to the OP was necessary as SAS is an EU airline and EU 261 is clear enough about the general obligation of a carrier (and as you write, it is generally similar to the MC).
For some reason, others got fixated on the maximum amount instead of on the guidance.
Arguing with others for the sake of arguing is a thing on this SAS forum, so sometimes I just step back and move on. But I appreciate your comments providing support to my original assertion that EU 261 had validity as guidance to the OP (based on what limited info they gave us). 👍🏾
