Crowne Plaza Singapore Changi

What is your Priority Club status?
Diamond Ambassador

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
The hotel is located at Singapore Changi Airport and connected to terminal 3. If arriving at terminal 2 or terminal 1, you need to take the skytrain. From terminal 4 a bus departs for terminal 2 and you take the skytrain from there.

In terminal 3 arrival, head to the left if leaving the luggage area and there are signs to the hotel. You arrive on the ground floor / first floor. If you arrive by skytrain turn left, walk a few steps and the entrance to the hotel is to your left. You pass the club lounge, where you can check in if you have access or club privileges.

It is clearly signposted.

The hotel has 9 floors (8 by European counting) and consists of two wings. The old wing built first and the newer Jewel Wing.

I arrived at the hotel at 15:30 by grab from downtown Singapore. There was a queue and I missed the dedicated check-in counter for elite (which is on the right side towards the elevators). The waiting time was not long though.

The agent retrieved the reservation from the system. I already had noticed, that the hotel was aware of my lounge pass and the upgrade to a High Floor Room with Club Access and view to the airport, which was visible in the morning.

The agent thanked me for being a Diamond member and asked if I liked the points or the beverage voucher. Breakfast would be part of the lounge benefits. I opted for the points and was also given a letter with information about the hotel and the lounge. He explained the opening times of the lounge and its location, the fitness-centre and the pool opening / access times.

A fitness center is available on the same floor as the club lounge while the outdoor pool is located on the third floor.

The fitness-centre lacks natural light. The machines are newer and modern. Threadmills, bikes, stepper and cardio machines are available. It is accessible 24/7 and quite often busy. Towels were provide along with a water dispenser.

The pool is open from 07:00 to 22:00 and quite large. Swimming laps is possible. There are also areas with whirlpool jets, which were not working during my stay. Sunchairs are available. Locker rooms with showers are also available.

Breakfast is served as buffet in Allora Restaurant between 06:00 and 10:30. Asian (Japanese, Indian and Thai) and European dishes are available. Available were also a selection of salami and cheese, vegetables and bread and rolls. In addition, a selection of fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt and pastries were available. Tea and coffee were self service from a machine, which was a bit of the slow side. Juices and water were also available. Service was good. I was – contrary to other reports – offered the choicer of having breakfast in the lounge or in the restaurant (without need to use my Diamond Amenity).

The lounge is large with different areas and quite nice. Breakfast is served from 06:30 to 10:30. The selection and variety is not as good as downstairs, but large enough with hot and cold items. In addition eggs could be ordered.

Which room did you book, and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Standard room and received a Standard Room – High Floor with club access and views towards terminal 3. I used points for the night

Flexible rate was including taxes approximately 270 SGD.

How are the rooms?

My room was located on the 9th floor.

The hallways to the floors are open and thus not air conditioned.

The Standard rooms are large (28 sq.m to 36 sq.m) and I stayed in one of the larger rooms facing terminal 3.

After stepping into the room, there is a longer hallway.

‘The bathroom comes with bathtub, shower, sink and toilet. There is a window between room and bathroom; a shade is available to block the views. As there are frosted windows in the bathroom, you need to lower this shade during the night to avoid light from the open hallway and bathroom windows.

Two sets of towels in small, medium and large sizes were provided. Shampoo, bath-gel., lotion are the large wall mounted bottles (Antipode). Bathroom amenities like razor and toothbrush were placed in a drawer next to the sink.

The room featured a bed with two bedside tables, a small table with two lounge chairs, a rather large desk with desk chair, a fridge, tea and coffee facilities and a place to store the luggage right next to the entrance.

Power outlets and USB charging plugs at the desk and on the bedside tables as well as at the alarm clock.

However, the air-conditioning was not really very good to adjust and it took some time to cool the room down. There is a keycard required for electricity and the a/c turned off if there no keycard placed in the slot. The design of the room uses a brown and grey-green-brown colour sheme.

It is warm and cozy, and the large windows give a lot of natural light. The room was clean, but showed some wear and tear, nothing really serious, but clearly visible.

How is the exec. lounge?
Located on the second floor, the lounge is indoor but offers windows towards a courtyard and thus there is natural light.

The lounge is cozy with different areas with either larger or smaller tables.

n the morning breakfast is served between 06:30 and 10:30. The variety of food is smaller than downstairs, but available are fresh fruit, cereals, and hot items. Eggs dished could be ordered and brought from the main restaurant. Tee, coffee and juices are served by staff. It is a quieter affair and if you are not that hungry, it is okay.

In the afternoon / evening between 17:30 and 19:30 is the evening reception. Offered are a selection of hot and cold dishes (usually three different types of pizza and an Asian dish with cold items like salami, cheese, salmon and salad). Wine, beer and spirits are also available and served by the very attentive staff. There is not that many variety from day to day.

Beer is available as well as sparkling wine, red and white wine and spirits.

Beverage in the lounge is not self-service, you are served by staff, which to me is okay. I consider the staff attentive. They remember what you have had and ask the next day if you like the same beverage as well.

The general manager comes to the lounge in the evening (if his duties allow a visit) and personally greets regular as well as Diamond guest and did some small talk. Staff is really helpful and have a good memory if you stay there frequently.

What was good and what was bad?
Good
Staff is friendly
location is well connected to public transportation and airport.
Size of room
Club Lounge is very good, though the variety is a bit limited
24/7 gym

Neutral
Bathroom windows
Furniture has some wear
air condition only work with keycard in slot

Bad
room rates could be quite high

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
The location is good. The rooms are of a good size and in good condition. Breakfast buffet downstairs is still good. The a/c has some room for improvement, and some might dislike the open hallways to the rooms

Staff is in general very friendly and helpful.

In so far, I would return, if the rates (money and points) are affordable. I would also consider this hotel if arriving late, spent day in Singapore, leave early the next day.

If you depart from T4, the hotel has not that many advantages over a hotel in the city, especially if you are on early flight.

A video of the room and some of the hotel facilities is uploaded on youtube
