It sort of depend on how much and where you travel. For me *A Gold is very helpful for lounges overseas. But if you were going there, you'd probably have UA Gold already, and so wouldn't need it, and if not you maybe cannot use it anyway. (There are some *A lounges in the US though - particularly on the coasts. But perhaps cheaper to get a UA Club card, which would also quickly get you to Gold, depending on spend.
