Koloa Landing Resort – Honest Review- its not a "want to stay here again" experience
We booked a coastline view room for five nights using points for myself and my wife. I had considered using nightly upgrade credits to get a suite, but ultimately decided against it. Based on the hotel’s website, the standard room seemed spacious enough for a five-day stay—and it was. We stayed over Easter, so we expected the hotel to be busy. Since my wife had a work conference beforehand, our travel dates were fixed.
We arrived around 2 PM and were welcomed with a traditional Hawaiian lei. Check-in was smooth, though that was the only time we were acknowledged or thanked for being elite Bonvoy members. At the front desk, we were offered the choice between welcome points or a $30 daily food & beverage credit—we chose the latter, which covered about half of our breakfast each day. The lobby is an open-air space with a pleasant, tropical vibe. The resort grounds, especially the pool area, are beautifully maintained.
Our room had a coastal view. Although the area directly in front of the building (outside hotel property) was poorly maintained, the overall view was still lovely. The room itself was spacious and included a shower, a full laundry setup, a well-equipped kitchenette, and a balcony. Housekeeping is provided every third day, which we appreciated from a sustainability perspective. We didn’t request cleaning during our stay.
The nearest sandy beach is about a 5–10 minute walk away, located directly in front of the Sheraton. The resort has only one restaurant and bar, which often felt crowded and a bit noisy. However, the food was generally good. Special shoutout to Kepa, a kind and professional waiter who provided excellent service every time he looked after us. The main pool is award-winning and was voted the best in the U.S.—but for us, it felt too crowded and very family-oriented. Honestly, it felt more like a kindergarten at times. There is a small adults-only pool in a separate area, but it isn’t heated or serviced, and during peak times, sunbeds were limited.
Overall:
We wouldn’t choose to stay here again. It’s a family-friendly hotel, and when it’s crowded, it’s not ideal for couples looking for a relaxing getaway. The staff are ok but can't say they are so kind and friendly. We requested a late checkout and, after asking three times, got 1 PM—which was disappointing considering check-in starts at 4 PM and same-day availability showed open rooms. Bonvoy elite status didn’t seem to offer much here in terms of benefits or recognition.
