unfortunately they are right if you didn't buy a flexible ticket. Hope it was not hundreds of Euros spent.

3. Refund Condition
3.1 The Customer may request a refund of the SAF Option by completing an online claim accessible via the "Contact Us" section of the Air France Website, provided that this refund request is made before the start of its journey and exclusively in the following cases:
(i) The flight ticket for which the Customer had purchased an SAF Option is canceled by Air France.
(ii) The Customer holding a Full Flex ticket cancels its flight within the validity of the flight ticket.
