Taking a quick look at a restaurant in LAX TBIT (Santa Monica Brew Works), a burger and a beer starts at $31 plus tax and tip, swapping the beer for wine makes it $35 and doing a cocktail instead is closer to $40. $35 for a decent 3 course meal plus highish-end open bar isn't exactly a ripoff.
It's been a long time since I bought anything at the food court since I'm an OWE and can access the AA FL and QF F lounges when flying out of LAX, but are you telling me that you can't get a meal for $20? Do you even know for sure what's being offered for $35 at the VX lounge? I can't say it's worth it unless I know what's on the menu.
