Nice beach is rocks. Stayed at the Beau Rivage. Very deeply discounted rates(30% of rack rate) in low season. I think maybe Oct is not low season. We were there in Feb, which is considered low season. Car is not much use in Nice, and difficult to park.

In Cannes, we stayed at the Martinez. Again, 30% of rack rate. Rate did not include breakfast. Hotel Breakfast for 2 was more than the room rate! No place to park a car. Hotel parking was 1/2 the room rate, but the car was in a very nice garage, and washed.

The outlying areas all need a car, so do not combine a car with city and outlying, unless you can find a hotel with free parking.

Really enjoyed both places, as high qualith restaurants were so much less than Paris.

At Chantecler, a table was roped off. A grand dame and her two dogs took the table. Cushions were provided, and the two dogs sat on chairs, one on each side of the Grand Dame.

Martinez has La Palme d'Or. Was the best on the Riveria when Christian Willer was there. He is in Paris now, so ???. They had a Chef's Table. Fax and reserve. We ate there 4 nights, and it was a fabulous experience.
