In the news about a month ago was that New York and California states were trying to block this merger, but I can't find anything newer about that to see if it's still on the table or not.
Anyone heard anything about these possible state actions since the recent federal regulatory approval?
Letitia James (NYS AG) said in a court filing that she was going to probe the deal back in October 2024. I don't see any indication of a suit being filed.
James' office declined to comment when federal regulators gave the deal a green light earlier this month.
California within the last 24 hours said the state is still investigating the deal.
Anything is possible, but the clock is running out for NY & CA to do anything. As of right now, Cap1 and Discover plan to close the merger on May 18th...If either state does take action we'll hear about it soon enough.
