Stayed twice in the last month, and must say, it was rather disappointing. Rates were eye-watering both times, $800 for the base room. They were far from sold out, with most room and suite types available and lobby/restaurants/lounge not too busy, so I suppose they try to keep their rates at that level even if it impacts occupancy.

I suppose it's now an aging hotel, which never really bothered me until this stay, when I noticed a number of scratch marks and the like. I'd say a light touch-up shouldn't be delayed too long. Overall, I still find the rooms very pleasant, though.

What wasn't pleasant (and new to me) was the cheap attitude. At check-in, we were offered a paid upgrade to a junior suite. These would have been bookable via Suite Upgrade Certificate, but I don't really like them, so deliberately didn't get one. When offering the welcome amenity, the agent made sure to tell us that the drink voucher would only be for one person. Classy! We were also admonished that we could take breakfast either at the club lounge or the restaurant, but not both. I'm always befuddled by this. We received similar instructions at IC PQC. Apparently it's an issue with guests who figured out that they can feed 4 people with benefits from a single room. Why a couple of Westerners wo obviously don't have 4 people in their party need to be told this, I don't know.

The biggest disappointment was evening happy hour at the club lounge. There are now just two hot items, which are pretty ridiculous -- one 50g piece of fish on a small plate, and another small container with three potato slices covered in bechamel sauce. The cold selection has taken a similar downturn (seafood escabeche and some vegan couscous whatever). Even worse, the items appear to be on a 2-night rotation, so its fish/potatoes, followed by a small piece of meat with half a mini quiche. I generally appreciate the Japanese attitude toward lounge food -not enough to be a meal, but tasty and of high quality- and we want to venture outside and sample local food anyway, but in this case, we went to the lounge nightly to have a glass of champagne and see if they changed up the rotation. So I guess IC Osaka joins what feels like a growing numbers of ICs where afternoon tea is the better offering...
