Not sure why to drag this into the BA board... but whatever.
However, your forgetting the first thing - UA does charge extra for E+. It just simply waives that for it's elites. If you're a non-elite, you must buy up to those fare classes that are eligible.
The second thing to keep in mind is that BA's seat is actually different, unlike UA's. UA's are simply spaced up to 5" more apart. BA's is a whole different seat. Also, you get more tier points for BA, you don't in UA's (well, you could I suppose if you bought Full Y/B, as opposed to M fare).
Lastly... unlike BA, a huge amount of attracting people to fly UA over and over again has been the outright promise of E+ seating for elites. BA has never endeavored into that area (promising E+ for elites).
Anyways...my two cents.
