In my specific case, my Indian passport was issued by the Indian Embassy in Wellington, New Zealand. Importantly, under the "Place of Issue" field inside my passport, it clearly states "Wellington (New Zealand)."
Thus, it is entirely reasonable and logical for a traveler to enter the place of issue exactly as printed on the passport, particularly when the profile field on Singapore Airlines’ system is also named "Passport Place of Issue." Expecting passengers to interpret this differently—against what is explicitly written in their passport—is confusing and counter-intuitive.

I understand from various forums and personal research that many travelers have previously raised this exact confusion regarding the "Passport Place of Issue" field on the Singapore Airlines system. Despite receiving this feedback for years, it appears no change or clarification has been made.
This oversight causes significant distress to travelers at critical moments like check-in and it is disappointing that such an important field remains ambiguous.

Given the recurring feedback and the real impact it has on passengers’ journeys, I strongly encourage Singapore Airlines to urgently review and either reword the field or provide explicit guidance during the data entry process. This will help prevent similar issues for future travelers
