I don't have an answer for you, but you should look at the price of one way tickets from Japan before settling on that plan. They are typically eye wateringly expensive.
That tends to be true on the Japanese carriers but not so much for international carriers. eg, HND-JFK via AA for 85,000jpy every weekday through June.
