The especially silly part is when BA have consciously decided to hide the information on booking, but then expect you to somehow know it if you want to take advantage of one of the offers; e.g. "offer only valid for J,C,D fares".
ropmot141's on the money here: outside the confines of this board, few customers know or care about booking class - ask around the office or your friends and family. We are odd.
But, that's not a reason for BA not to show this information somewhere in the booking engine, even if it's hidden away so as not to confuse the uninitiated. Especially when other elements of the service offering, e.g. tier points, promotions are specifically tied to fare class.
